PASCO-Hosted “Chinese Badminton Invitational in Austria” Successfully Held in Vienna

On 10 May, the “Chinese Badminton Invitational in Austria,” hosted by the Austrian-Chinese Technology Association, was successfully held in Vienna. Chinese badminton enthusiasts, students, company representatives and members of community groups from across Austria gathered at the venue to make friends and exchange through sport, together putting on a vibrant and united sporting event.
The tournament drew 12 participating teams and many individual players. It featured team and individual events across several categories, including men’s doubles, mixed doubles, men’s singles, women’s singles and youth singles, played in a combination of group round-robin and knockout rounds. On court, the players competed energetically and coordinated well, showing both strong competitive levels and the spirit of “friendship first, competition second.”
On the day, matches ran simultaneously on several courts. High clears, smashes and net saves produced one exciting moment after another, with constant applause and cheers. Whether seasoned regulars or newcomers taking part for the first time, everyone experienced the joy and the opportunities for exchange that badminton brings, in a relaxed and warm atmosphere.
At the opening ceremony, Wang Zhongcheng, Counsellor for Science and Technology at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Austria, attended and delivered remarks. He congratulated the organisers on the successful event and praised the positive, united and mutually supportive spirit of the Chinese community in Austria. Sporting activities, he noted, not only improve physical fitness but also further exchange and ties within the Chinese community, and he expressed the hope that more such meaningful cultural and sporting events would be held in future.
The tournament received generous support and sponsorship from many companies and institutions, including Sunshine Travel, ICBC Austria, Hong Ai TCM & MPH and Yun An Massage. The Austrian-Chinese Technology Association extends its sincere thanks to them all. It was thanks to this support from many quarters that the invitational was brought to a successful close.
Beyond the exciting competition, the organisation behind the scenes was equally orderly and efficient. Staff and volunteers completed a great deal of preparatory work in advance — registration, group draws, scheduling, court coordination and logistics. On-site check-in, the schedule and the group draws were clear and well organised, ensuring the event ran smoothly. Many helpers stayed on site from morning to evening, providing steady and solid support.
After a tense and exciting day of competition, the events in all categories concluded smoothly, and the winning teams and outstanding players received trophies and commemorative awards. At the end, all participants and helpers gathered for a group photo, bringing the invitational to a fitting close.
Many expressed the hope that more such events would be held in future — using sport as a bond to promote exchange and friendship, and to build a positive, healthy, united and vibrant Chinese community in Austria.
The Austrian-Chinese Technology Association will continue to promote further exchange activities in culture, science and sport, offering the Chinese community in Austria more platforms for exchange and interaction.
